I found out what this bird is - it's an Eastern Towhee. He was in our backyard again this evening but he's only visited twice so far. Sounds like they are looking for seeds under the feeder.
One of the bad things about owning a dog is that, unless you buy dogs in your 80s or end up on the wrong side of the actuary table, you will end up outliving them.
Chevy's back legs really gave out on her in the past few days and she was essentially immobile yesterday. There were no real good options for a 14 year old dog and we had to put her down this morning.
You were a great dog, Chevy, and you will be missed.
