What's new?

Tuesday, April 11, 2000

It's been pretty quiet on this website, and I apologize. I haven't had too much to report, I've been lazy, and we haven't taken many pictures lately either.

On Friday I took a half day of vacation and we drove to Wilmington, NC for a daytrip. We were hoping that the blooming azaleas would be at their peak but unfortunately they were a bit past that point. They were still pretty, though. We went to a park and wandered around and we also went to the beach for a little bit. Later, we went downtown where they were having the actual "Azalea Festival 2000" and had dinner. It was a fun, quick trip.

On Saturday I rented a huge tiller and broke up a bunch of the rock-hard "dirt" in my backyard so that we could put some plants in the ground. It's really amazing how much easier a job is when you have the right tools. After we returned the tiller it was a race against the incoming rain as we first bought a bunch of bags of compost and mulch at Home Depot and then rushed to get the plants in the ground. We beat the rain, which came down in buckets, and hopefully everything starts growing like crazy now!

Along with the plants in the ground, our other sign of spring is that we've got two Durham Bulls baseball games that we're going to this week. The Bulls have a beautiful ballpark and are a triple-A team like the Minnesota Twins.

Ronda's been doing well and we're starting to count down the weeks until the baby arrives. Rachel still prefers wearing dresses and is disappointed that the weather is warming up since it's preventing her from wearing tights. It takes about ten minutes at bedtime for her to get all her animals and dolls tucked in (they all have their specific places to sleep) and for her beloved toy dog Genevieve to change from her pink clothes to her yellow pajamas. I think that at this rate we'll wake up some morning in the future and find that Rachel has changed the baby and dressed it. -- Gerry
